Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian
In response to the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's claim that the Taiwan question is not just China's domestic affair, as a crisis in the Taiwan region would affect the world, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that Taiwan is China's Taiwan, and Taiwan question is purely an internal affair of China, not subject to any external interference.
Lin pointed out that the greatest challenge to peace in the Taiwan region today comes from "Taiwan independence" separatist activities and the disruption caused by external forces. The US should abide by the One-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, honor its commitment to not supporting "Taiwan independence separatists," stop condoning separatist forces advocating "Taiwan independence," and cease interfering in China's internal affairs regarding the Taiwan question.
In an interview with Foreign Affairs magazine, Blinken also claimed that the US coordinates policies with its Eurasian partners, and "China's dissatisfaction is the greatest evidence of the success of our approach." In response, Lin Jian emphasized that China has always viewed and developed relations with the US based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, while firmly safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests.
We have always believed that a "new Cold War" cannot be fought, nor can it be won. Containing China is unwise, undesirable, and bound to fail.
When meeting with US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in the Peruvian capital of Lima, Chinese President Xi Jinping listed seven experiences and inspirations that should be drawn from the past four years of China-US relations. These insights offer strategic guidance for ensuring a stable, healthy and sustainable bilateral relationship in the future.
We hope the US will take these lessons seriously and work with China to move forward together, Lin said.
