In response to the US Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC) 2024 Annual Report, which claimed that the Chinese government has increasingly interfered in the affairs of Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions (SARs) in violation of the "One Country, Two Systems" principle, Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated on Monday that the CECC consistently attacks and smears China for political purposes and has no credibility at all.

It releases so-called report year after year, slandering and smearing the human rights situation in Hong Kong and Macao as well as the practice of "One Country, Two Systems." China is strongly dissatisfied with this and firmly opposes it, said Mao.

Mao emphasized that since the return of Hong Kong and Macao SARs to the motherland, the "One Country, Two Systems" principle has continuously improved, leading to historic leap in economic and social development. The rights and freedoms of people in Hong Kong and Macao have been fully guaranteed, with a significant increase in their sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security.

Mao said that it fully demonstrated that "One Country, Two Systems" has prominent institutional advantages and strong vitality. It is a good system that helps maintain long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macao, a good system that serves building a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation, and a good system that helps realize peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation between different social systems. It must be adhered to for a long time, said Mao.

With the full support of the central government and the joint efforts of various sectors in Hong Kong and Macao, the practice of "One Country, Two Systems" will be promoted stably and sustainably. Hong Kong and Macao will shine even more brilliantly.
