Japanese Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeshi Iwaya is invited to visit China on December 25. Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya will hold foreign ministers' talks and attend the second meeting of High-Level Consultation Mechanism on People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges between China and Japan, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning announced on Tuesday.

When asked to introduce the background and planned arrangements for the visit, Mao said during the press conference on Tuesday that President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba held a meeting during the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Lima in November 2024, and agreed to maintain high-level interactions and better leverage the High-Level Consultation Mechanism on People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges mechanism.

China places importance on Foreign Minister Iwaya's visit, and Chinese leader will meet with him, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will hold talks with him and attend the second meeting of High-Level Consultation Mechanism on People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges, Mao said.

China stands ready to work with the Japanese side to focus on shared interests, enhance dialogue and communication, expand practical cooperation, and effectively manage differences, and make joint efforts to promote the strategic relationship of mutual benefit between China and Japan, and work towards establishing a constructive and stable relationship that aligns with the demands of the new era, Mao added.
