In response to the Pentagon’s recently released 2024 report on “Military and Security Developments Involving the PRC,” which claimed that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has a range of capabilities to “compel Taiwan to the negotiation table” and that Taiwan is developing asymmetric strategies, capabilities, and defensive resilience through a whole-of-society approach to counter the PLA, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council’s Taiwan Affairs Office, stated at a regular press conference on Wednesday that the so-called “report” deliberately stirs up hostility and confrontation across the Taiwan Strait, incites Taiwan to purchase weapons and prepare for war, and constitutes gross interference in China’s internal affairs.
He added that it seriously violates the provisions of the three China-US joint communiqués. “We express our strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to this,” Chen said.
There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is a part of China. We urge the US to abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués, stop hyping up questions related to Taiwan, and stop sending wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" forces. We warn the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities that "relying on the US to seek independence" or "seeking independence by force" is a dead end, Chen said.
He further emphasized that no one and no force should underestimate or misjudge China’s unwavering determination, firm will, and powerful ability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
