China releases guidelines of digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises to promote high-quality development  Three departments in China have released guidelines for the digital transformation of manufacturing enterprises on Wednesday, in a bid to further drive the high-quality development of the sector.

Enterprises are encouraged to explore innovative applications in intelligent R&D and design software, build datasets including design and simulation models, carry out model training, develop innovative applications such as generative design and real-time simulation, and accelerate the development of new products, said the guidelines.

High-end equipment manufacturing enterprises are urged to establish collaborative design platforms, strengthen design collaboration, and shorten product design cycles, the guidelines said.   It also encourages leading enterprises to develop high-quality industrial data repositories, support industrial AI training and application promotion and unlock the potential value of industrial data.

It also proposes promoting the construction of the national industrial internet big data center, establish a multi-tiered national industrial basic and industry-specific database to further promote convenient and efficient data circulation.

The guidelines followed closely on the heels of the Central Economic Work Conference held earlier this month.

The meeting has advocated that efforts should be made to adopt forward-thinking arrangements for major technological projects, conduct large-scale demonstration for the application of new technologies, products and scenarios, launch an AI Plus initiative, nurture industries of the future and boost China's strategic scientific and technological strength.

China's manufacturing sector is undergoing a rapid shift toward intelligent manufacturing, with new industries mushrooming rapidly, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

There are more than 6 million enterprises in the manufacturing sector in China, marking a 5.53 percent increase compared with the end of the previous year, data showed. Among them, 515,300 enterprises are related to strategic emerging industries, accounting for 8.55 percent of the total manufacturing enterprises, up 6.35 percent year-on-year.
