Dai Bing, China's former deputy permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), assumed his post as the new Chinese ambassador to South Korea, it was reported on Friday.
Before serving as China's ambassador to South Korea, Dai held positions including director-general of the department of African affairs, China's ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary and deputy permanent representative to the UN. China's relationship with Africa represents a significant aspect of its intercontinental cooperation, while the UN serves as an indispensable platform for China's diplomacy.
Given that Dai has experience in both of these pivotal roles, he possesses extensive diplomatic experience, strong problem-solving abilities, and a personality that is well-suited for the role of Ambassador to South Korea, Da Zhigang, director of the Institute of Northeast Asian Studies at Heilongjiang Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Friday.
In his written speech at Gimpo International Airport upon his arrival in South Korea, Dai stated that he would adhere to the principles proposed by Chinese leaders of maintaining the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations, strengthening friendly neighborly ties, and upholding mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, working together with South Korea to promote the healthy, stable, and positive development of the China-South Korea strategic partnership, according to the official WeChat account of the Chinese Embassy in South Korea on Friday.
Over the past 32 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, with the joint efforts of both sides, exchanges and cooperation in various fields between China and South Korea have yielded fruitful results. The two countries have achieved mutual success, greatly benefiting their peoples and making significant contributions to regional and even global peace and prosperity, said Dai at the airport.
Dai's written speech showed that he is ready to prioritize people-to-people exchanges between China and South Korea, as well as the exploration of existing strengths between the two nations. Dai will strive to foster mutual understanding and enhance goodwill among the peoples of China and South Korea by adhering to the principle of seeking common ground while respecting differences, according to Da.
Dai also expressed willingness to enhance cooperation with South Korea in order to maintain the international free trade system and foster a favorable environment and conditions for the mutual development of both countries, as well as for international solidarity and cooperation.
Da said the new ambassador's focus will also encompass Chinese and South Korean enterprises, aiming to strengthen the positive momentum in existing sectors while exploring new areas, such as digital cooperation, and avoiding unhealthy competition in certain fields.
