The spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, Chen Binhua, criticized the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities during a press conference on Wednesday, accusing them of resorting to the old tactic of "spending people's money on brainwashing." He further claimed that the DPP has kept cyber army to smear Chinese mainland.

Chen's remarks were in response to a report from Taiwan-based media indicating that the DPP plans to increase its media budget for the fiscal year 2025 by nearly 70 percent compared to 2024, raising it to over NT$1.49 billion (approximately $46.77 million).

Chen stated that, in order to cover up their governance incompetence, the DPP authorities have become accustomed to manipulating public opinion on the island. This includes maintaining a network of cyber army to attack those who have a different opinion and smear the mainland, a practice that has been widely criticized across various sectors on the island.
