In response to reported US plans for new regulations aimed at preventing the sale of advanced chips to China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun voiced strong opposition, saying that China has repeatedly expressed its stern position on the US' malicious suppression of the Chinese semiconductor industry.
The Biden administration is reportedly planning new regulations to prevent advanced chips from TSMC, Samsung, Intel and other major producers from reaching the Chinese mainland, and seeking to encourage these companies to scrutinize customers and increase due diligence, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
Guo criticized the US for politicizing, over-securitizing, and weaponizing economic, trade, and technological issues, escalating chip export controls, and pressuring other countries to suppress China's semiconductor sector.
Such actions will hinder the global semiconductor industry and ultimately backfire, harming others and the US itself, Guo said.
