The Ministry of Public Security (PBS) has prioritized cases of Chinese citizens lured abroad and subsequently being lost or trapped after families of those concerned have sought help through various channels, including social media, reported the China Central Television (CCTV) on Wednesday. In response, the PBS has deployed local police departments to sort out these cases and launch thorough investigations with the support and assistance from the Foreign Ministry and Chinese embassies, coordinated rescue efforts are underway.
Overseas fraud syndicates often entice individuals with promises of "high-paying jobs, free meals and accommodations, reimbursed airfare, and dedicated transportation" or disguise their schemes as business trips or free travel, said the report.
These fraudulent operations aim to deceive people into engaging in illegal activities such as telecom and online fraud, the police department warned. The public is urged to remain vigilant, enhance personal safety precautions, and avoid trusting high-paying overseas job offers to prevent falling victim to scams and telecom fraud.
Public security authorities also remind those whose relatives have gone missing or become trapped abroad to promptly report the cases to their local public security bureau and seek assistance through official channels such as Chinese embassies and consulates.
Investigations into such cases will be launched immediately, with coordination from relevant departments to locate and rescue those affected, said the PBS.
