The artificial intelligence (AI) service offered by Chinese AI start-up DeepSeek could impact the world as it becomes increasingly integrated into the Chinese economy, said a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body.

DeepSeek is essentially democratizing access to advanced technology. The adoption of DeepSeek is empowering a wide range of sectors in China, providing smaller companies with access to AI at a low cost, Liu Shangxi, a member of the CPPCC National Committee, told the Global Times on Tuesday on the sidelines of the "two sessions."

"Previously, high costs and investments made AI only accessible to large companies. Now, AI technology can be accessed by smaller businesses and the general public. DeepSeek has accelerated the widespread adoption of AI technology and will broaden the horizons of its application," Liu said.

Following this path, DeepSeek will lead to a sustained and pervasive positive impact on efficiency across various fields and to a significant reduction in costs. It will also impact the global economy by influencing China, said Liu, who is a top fiscal expert.

In 2024, China unveiled an AI Plus initiative, a strategic move designed to propel the digital economy's expansion and spearhead the transformation and modernization of manufacturing sectors, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
