When asked about whether the Trump administration's withdrawal from several key international organizations and freezing most of its foreign aid will be beneficial for China's development and provide a strategic opportunity for the country to play a more important role in international affairs, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that New China stands firm on the side of international justice, and resolutely opposes power politics and hegemony. China believe that friends should be permanent and we should pursue common interests.
Wang made the remarks on Friday at a conference on China's foreign policy and external relations on Friday on the sidelines of the third session of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) in Beijing
There are over 190 countries in the world. Imagine if each country emphasized national priority, relied on strength and obsessed with power and status, this would lead the world back to the jungle law, with small and weak countries bearing the brunt, and the international rules and order would be severely disrupted.
Over a hundred years ago, at the Paris Peace Conference, the Chinese people raised a historic question: Is "Right triumphs over might" or "might is right"?New China firmly stands on the side of international justice, resolutely opposes hegemony and power politics. History should move forward, not regress. Great powers must shoulder international responsibilities and fulfill their duties. They should not be driven solely by self-interest nor bully the weak, Wang noted.
There is a saying in the West: We have no eternal allies, and our interests are eternal. But for China, friends should be permanent and we should pursue common interests, Wang said.
We are pleased to see more and more countries joining in the building of a community with a shared future for humanity. Over 100 countries support the three global initiatives, namely, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, and more than three-quarters of the world's nations have joined the Belt and Road family, Wang said.
History will prove that a real winner is the one that keeps in mind the interests of all, and that a community with a shared future for mankind will ensure that the world belongs to every country, and that everyone will have a bright future, Wang noted.
