Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu on Monday expressed his sorrow over the passing of renowned entrepreneur Lee Shau-kee, extended deepest condolences to his family, and spoke highly of Lee Shau-kee's contribution in economic development, education and social service sectors.

The chief executive said that Lee Shau-kee was an outstanding business leader and entrepreneur who had made significant contributions to Hong Kong's economic development, as well as the city's prosperity and stability, according to a press release published by the government of the HKSAR. 

John Lee Ka-chiu praised Lee Shau-kee a highly respected philanthropist, as Lee Shau-kee had made outstanding contributions to education and community service in the past decades, including his generous donations to a number of universities and tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and the Mainland, and his ardent support for the development of higher education and talent development.

Lee Shau-kee had established the Lee Shau Kee Foundation and the Hong Kong Pei Hua Education Foundation, which promote education with special concern on the development of education and research in Chinese communities, said the chief executive.

Lee Shau-kee, founder of Hong Kong's Henderson Land Development Co and a Grand Bauhinia Medal recipient, passed away on Monday at the age of 97, according to an obituary published on the company's official website.
