According to the Yonhap News Agency, prosecution officials said Wednesday that a man in his 40s, surnamed Ahn, was indicted earlier this week on charges of attempting to trespass into the Chinese Embassy and a police station in Seoul while dressed as the Marvel Comics character Captain America.
Ahn has been put under arrest, and the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office referred him to trial on Monday on charges of attempted trespassing and damaging public property, said the report.
On February 14, Ahn attempted to trespass into the Chinese Embassy in Seoul while dressed in Captain America's iconic costume and was under investigation without detention, Yonhap News Agency reported. And he is accused of breaking the glass gate of the Seoul Namdaemun Police Station and attempting to enter the building at around 11 pm on February 20, demanding he be questioned quickly. He is also accused of swearing at a police officer at that time and creating a fake US military ID.
South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said "We are closely communicating with the Chinese embassy and the police in charge to prevent similar incidents from happening again," regarding the intrusion of the man, according to South Korea's The Maeil Business Newspaper in February."We are concerned and regretting this case happened," the Chinese Embassy in Seoul told Yonhap News Agency on February 15, adding it has shared the view with the South Korean government.
