On Wednesday, following a complaint by a social media user that an employee at the Universal Beijing Resort of inappropriate physical interactions with visitors during a role-playing activity, the resort launched an internal investigation and suspended the employee as an initial measure, according to The Paper.
"On March 19, we became aware of a visitor's complaint regarding an employee. We take this matter very seriously and have immediately launched an internal investigation, suspending the employee's duties as a first step. Respecting every visitor and providing them with a high-quality experience has always been our core corporate value and code of conduct. We are committed to fairness and will take strict action in accordance with the investigation results against any behavior that violates our company's standards and policies. We appreciate everyone's attention and feedback," said the resort on Wednesday.
Videos shared by netizens show the employee, dressed as "Chaplin," asked a female visitor to pose as if kissing his cheek. As the visitor pretended to kiss, the man suddenly turned his head to kiss her. Additionally, photos circulating online depict the employee leaning on female visitors' shoulder, his gaze seemingly directed at their chest. These actions reportedly made visitors uncomfortable, The Paper reported.
Universal Beijing Resort, located in Beijing's Tongzhou district, is one of the largest and most anticipated theme parks in Asia. It officially opened its doors to the public on September 20, 2021. Since its opening, it has attracted a significant number of visitors.
