A theory promotion symposium on "studying the first volume of Selected works of Xi Jinping on economy" was held in Beijing on Wednesday, co-hosted by the People's Daily and Renmin University of China, following the book's recent publication.

The convening of the symposium on Wednesday aims to rally greater efforts, sparking a wave of enthusiasm across various sectors of society for studying the first volume of Selected works of Xi Jinping on economy and deepening the study and implementation of Xi Jinping's economic thought.

Among those attending the symposium were Chen Jianwen, editor-in-chief of People's Daily, Fang Jiangshan, deputy editor-in-chief of People's Daily, and Zhang Donggang, Party secretary of Renmin University of China. 

Chen said in his speech that the first volume of Selected works of Xi Jinping on economy provides an authoritative textbook for the entire Party and people of all ethnic groups across the country to deeply study and understand the core essence, spiritual substance, rich connotations, and practical requirements of Xi Jinping's economic thought, as well as to grasp the Marxist standpoints, viewpoints, and methods running through it.

Zhang stated that Selected works of Xi Jinping on economy systematically expounds the core essence, spiritual substance, rich connotations, and practical requirements of Xi Jinping's economic thought, profoundly reflecting the theoretical height, intellectual depth, and practical weight of the sinicization and modernization of Marxist political economy.

Several experts delivered theme speeches at the event.

Gao Peiyong, a member of Academic Division and former vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that Xi Jinping's economic thought provides profound answers to major questions such as how to view and manage China's economic development, constituting a thought system centered on development.

Zhang Yu, former deputy editor-in-chief of Qiushi Journal and professor at Renmin University of China, stated that earnestly studying the first volume of Selected works of Xi Jinping on economy and deeply comprehending Xi Jinping's economic thought require a focus on learning and mastering the Marxist standpoints, viewpoints, and methods running through it, adhering to the guidance of Xi Jinping's economic thought in economic development practices, continuously breaking new ground in contemporary Chinese Marxist political economy, and contributing Chinese wisdom to the innovative development of Marxist political economy.

The first volume of selected works of Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on economy has been published and is available nationwide, the Xinhua News Agency reported on March 2.

The volume brings together 74 pieces of Xi's most important and fundamental works on economic development from November 2012 to December 2024. Some of these works, which come in various forms, such as speeches and instructions, are being published for the first time, according to Xinhua.
