Carlos Aldeco, the new Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative in the People's Republic of China, presented credential to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China on March 18.

While presenting credential to Bai Tian, director-general of the Department of International Economic Affairs of the Foreign Ministry of China, Aldeco gave a briefing of FAO's work in China and stated that FAO Representation in China will continue to work for China, with China and from China.

The organization will promote more practical and comprehensive cooperation with China, aiming to contribute to sustainable agricultural development in both China and the global community.

Bai welcomed Aldeco to his new role. He also stressed that China will maintain the country's longstanding friendly and substantive cooperation with FAO and continue to support the organization's work in China. It is expected that FAO Representation in China will further leverage its bridging role to share China's successful agricultural practices and experience with other countries, continuing to achieve global food security, said Bai.

Aldeco assumed the new post of the FAO Representative in China on February 17.

Despite China's rapid growth, the country remains a developing country, striving for a balanced and low-carbon development pathway. The country has been embracing the modernization and industrialization drive that is equitable, environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly. By 2025, major achievements will be made in China's agricultural and rural modernization, with the agricultural infrastructure being firmer.
