Recently, anti-narcotics police in Yingjing, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, successfully uncovered a drug-related case where a groom’s friend gifted methamphetamine disguised as “wedding cash.” Police have arrested five suspects, and further investigations are underway, the local police announced.

According to the investigation, on the wedding day of a man surnamed Gao, his friend surnamed Li gifted 1 gram of elaborately packaged methamphetamine along with traditional cash gifts to the groom, local police said on their official Wechat account on Monday.

Excited upon receiving the drugs, Gao decided to share them with friends. He subsequently invited other companions with histories of drug use to collectively consume the narcotics, attempting to conduct illegal activities under the guise of festive celebrations, according to the report.

Acting on leads, public security authorities apprehended five suspects involved in the case, which is currently under further investigation, the report said.

According to China's Law on Penalties for Administration of Public Security and relevant regulations, individuals found using or injecting drugs face 10 to 15 days of detention and fines of up to 2,000 yuan ($276). Under China’s Criminal Law, those who induce, instigate, or deceive others into drug use face up to three years in prison, criminal detention, or public surveillance, along with fines. In severe cases, penalties range from three to seven years of imprisonment plus fines.
