Chinese chain restaurant shut down after mouse found in food cabinet

A Chinese street food malatang outlet, YangGuoFu Malatang in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu Province, was ordered to shut down after a mouse was found in its food cabinet, local market regulators confirmed Friday. Authorities said the case would be handled in strict accordance with the law.

According to a notice issued by the Market Supervision Administration of Suzhou Industrial Park on Friday, law enforcement officers immediately conducted an on-site inspection at the restaurant, ordered the restaurant to suspend operations, and filed a case the same day. The administration said it will handle the matter seriously in accordance with laws and regulations. 

The administration pledged to tighten food safety supervision to better protect public health.

A video posted Tuesday by a netizen showing a mouse inside the restaurant's food cabinetat a mall in Suzhou on Tuesday, sparked heated discussions on Chinese social media platforms. 

The restaurant claimed the mouse had entered from a neighboring store and said the affected dishes had been removed. The restaurant conducts daily disinfection and will strengthen management in the future, it said. 

On Wednesday, mall staff confirmed the store had suspended operations, though it remained unclear if the closure was directly tied to the mouse incident.
