According to official statements, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi elaborated on China's stance and concerns regarding historical issues, emphasizing that Japan should correctly understand history, during his recent visit to Japan to attend the 11th China-Japan-ROK Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Meeting and host the China-Japan High-Level Economic Dialogue. When asked to further elaborate on China's position on this matter, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun told the Global Times at a regular press conference on Monday that, as Wang had mentioned, historical issues are critical to the political foundation of China-Japan relations and concern the people's feelings in the victimized country in the war.

Guo stressed that correctly understanding and treating history is an important prerequisite for Japan's post-war return to the international community, a political foundation for Japan to develop relations with its neighboring countries, and an important criterion for testing whether Japan can abide by its commitment to peaceful development.
