Five survivors, including a child and a pregnant woman, have been rescued by Chinese rescue teams in Mandalay as of Monday morning as Chinese rescue teams are racing against time to save lives in quake-hit Myanmar.
Chinese rescuers successfully pulled out a survivor at the Sky Villa residential area in Mandalay, Myanmar, at about 7:20 am local time on Monday, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
At 5:37 am and 6:20 am local time on Monday, after a sleepless night of continuous efforts, the China Search and Rescue Team and the Rescue Team of Ram Union successfully rescued a 5-year-old child and a pregnant woman from the rubbles at the Sky Villa Condominium rescue site in Mandalay, according to a release from the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.
The child had been trapped for over 60 hours and was found in stable condition. Both individuals have been sent to the hospital for treatment, according to the release.
Earlier, at 12:40 am on Monday, the China Search and Rescue Team rescued a woman trapped in the Great Wall Hotel in Mandalay. Rescue operations by the Chinese teams are still ongoing at the site.
Another Chinese rescue team, from Yunnan Province, on Sunday morning rescued a survivor in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar's capital city, which was also severely affected in Friday's earthquake, according to the Xinhua News Agency.
The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar on Monday confirmed that one Chinese citizen died in the strong earthquake in Myanmar, Xinhua reported.
China's first batch of emergency humanitarian earthquake relief supplies to Myanmar departed from Beijing Capital International Airport on Monday morning. In response to a request from the Myanmar government, China has decided to provide Myanmar with 100 million yuan ($13.9 million) in emergency humanitarian aid to support earthquake relief efforts, according to Xinhua.
According to the China International Development Cooperation Agency, the initial supplies include tents, blankets and first aid kits.
As of Monday morning, the Chinese government has dispatched four official rescue teams to assist in the earthquake relief efforts in Myanmar, including the China Search and Rescue Team, the China International Search and Rescue Team, the Yunnan medical rescue team, and the Hong Kong SAR rescue team, with a total of 288 personnel. In addition, the Red Cross Society of China and at least 15 civilian rescue teams from across China have also arrived in Myanmar to join the rescue operations, according to a release from the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar.
Around 11:00 pm on Sunday, the 118-member force from the China International Search and Rescue Team, consisting of earthquake experts, structural engineers, search and rescue personnel, and medical staff aboard two Y-20 transport aircraft, arrived in Myanmar's capital, Nay Pyi Taw, according to the release.
The team has six search and rescue dogs, two rescue vehicles, 634 sets of rescue equipment and supplies, and medical supplies, would proceed to the disaster-stricken areas to conduct emergency relief operations.
