Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun
In response to question regarding US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's remarks on Sunday that "warrior" Japan is "indispensable" in deterring China, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that US-Japan military security cooperation should not target third countries or harm regional peace and development. The US uses the so-called "China threat" rhetoric as an excuse to provoke ideological confrontation, incite division and conflict, and even encourage certain countries to act as cannon fodder for US hegemony. Regional countries should remain vigilant and take precautions against this.
Guo noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Japanese side should particularly draw lesson from history and act prudently on military and security matters. The Taiwan question is purely a matter of China's internal affairs, and how to resolve it is a matter for the Chinese people themselves, which brooks no external interference, he noted.
Guo urged certain individuals in the US to abandon their fantasies of "using Taiwan question to contain China", and to adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiqués through concrete actions, fulfilling the commitments made by the US regarding Taiwan question.
Japan, which had committed aggression and conducted colonial rule over Taiwan island, bears a serious historical guilt toward the Chinese people. It should adhere to the principles of the four political documents between China and Japan, exercising caution in its words and actions regarding the Taiwan question, rather than sending erroneous signals to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, according to Guo.
