In response to remarks made by Samuel Paparo, commander of the US Indo-Pacific Command during a Congressional hearing claiming that the US should build a "hellscape" of autonomous systems in the Taiwan Straits to deter the Chinese People's Liberation Army,  Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said at a regular press conference on Wednesday  that some individuals in the US continue to hype up and exaggerate the so-called "hellscape," which starkly reveals the malicious intent of anti-China forces in the US to destroy Taiwan island for their own political gain.

We urge the US to adhere to the one-China principle and the provisions of the three joint communiqués between China and the US, to stop interfering in Taiwan question and stirring up trouble in the Taiwan Straits, and to refrain from sending any erroneous signals to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, Zhu said.

Also commenting on US' sending a retired general to serve as senior observer for Taiwan military's annual Han Kuang 41 exercises and so-called "advisor" to Taiwan military's chief of the general staff, Zhu said that the Taiwan question is purely China's internal affair and does not allow for any external interference.

We firmly oppose any form of military exchange between the US and the island of Taiwan, and we urge the US to adhere to the one-China principle and the provisions of the three China-US communiqués, to handle the Taiwan question with caution, and to stop encouraging the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces to "seek independence through force," Zhu said.

We warn the DPP authorities that relying on the US to seek independence is a misguided path, and "seeking independence through force" is a dead end, the spokesperson stressed.
